Obama, McCain Target Florida
TAMPA
(WUSF) -
Conventional wisdom several months ago was that John McCain had the state - with its large numbers of retirees and military veterans - locked up. But the ascendency of Barack Obama has upset that equation. The state is now up for grabs - as can be seen by visits today by Obama in St. Petersburg and McCain in Orlando.
USF Political Science professor Susan MacManus expects many more visits in the next few months.
MacManus says the key to this election will be voter turnout. That's why both candidates are opening offices in the state's major cities. Obama opened a Clearwater office earlier this week, and is set to open a Sarasota office this afternoon. © Copyright 2009, WUSF
