Reservoir Taking Piece of the Peace
SARASOTA
(WUSF) -
The huge reservoir that recently began siphoning water from the Alafia River isn't the only new supply of surface water in the Tampa Bay area. A six-billion-gallon reservoir is being dug next to the Peace River near Arcadia, in DeSoto County. When it's completed, it will hold flood waters taken from the Peace during times of high flows.
Any water that is not used will be placed in underground storage wells for use during the dry months for customers of the Peace River/Manasota Regional Water Supply Authority in Manatee, Sarasota, DeSoto and Charlotte counties. © Copyright 2009, WUSF
