DCF Chief Proudest of Transparency
TAMPA
(WUSF) -
Bob Butterworth is resigning as Secretary of the Department of Children and Families. His last day is August 15th. The Democrat and former Attorney General was appointed by Republican Governor Charlie Crist to revamp the troubled state agency.
Butterworth says his biggest challenge was to help DCF workers overcome a culture of fear. He's proudest of having established a culture of transparency and cooperation.
But, Butterworth says there's a lot left to do such as changing perceptions about foster children.
He has suggested that the Governor find the next DCF secretary from within the agency.
