A Four Day School Week?
The Superintendent for the Hernando County School district is putting forward the plan to shorten the week as one way to cope with the $2 million budget shortfall. Superintendent Wayne Alexander says one area of savings would be transportation costs.
A shorter week should also save money on utilities, and possibly staffing. The total savings to the district is estimated at up to $700,000. But, it may not be an easy sell.
The School district will give the idea a test run this summer, when it will shut down operations on six Fridays. Officials say that could save around $100,000.
The Hernando County school board will take up the issue at a Tuesday workshop.
