Sarasota Police Chief Suspended SARASOTA (WUSF) - Police Chief Peter Abbott was suspended without pay for two weeks and Officer Christopher Childers was fired for their parts in the arrest. It began five months ago, when Juan Perez was arrested on a charge of disorderly intoxication. A subsequent investigation that was farmed out to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office showed Childers slammed Perez to the ground and kicked him twice. The chief later authorized giving Perez a cash settlement not to file charges against the arresting officer, which he later refused to accept.
