Mays Likely Died of Natural Causes TAMPA (WUSF) - The Hillsborough County medical examiner says it's likely Billy Mays died of heart disease. An autopsy showed a thickening of his heart wall, which can cause sudden death by disturbing the heart's electrical rhythm. Mays, who died Sunday, had several prescriptions for drugs because recent hip replacement surgeries. But medical examiner Vernard Adams says there is no evidence the drugs had any role in his death.

"We are withholding a cause of death opinion until all the studies have been completed," he said. "But the heart disease that was found is certainly capable of causing the sudden death that he experienced."

Adams ruled out speculation Mays may have been injured during a rough landing on a commercial airline Saturday at Tampa International Airport. The complete autopsy report should be ready in eight to 10 weeks. © Copyright 2012, WUSF
