Famed Architect to Build USF Lakeland
LAKELAND
(WUSF) -
USF announced it has chosen Santiago Calatrava to design the first leg of the new USF Polytechnic campus in Polk County. The Spaniard is renowned for his projects at the Barcelona and Athens Olympic sites, and is designing the future train station for the rebuilt World Trade Center in New York.
USF Polytechnic President Marshall Goodman says the campus will be as architecturally significant as nearby Florida Southern College.
"An iconic structure that will put our institution and our region on the map in a whole new way," says Goodman." Here, in a community already famous for the work of the greatest architect of the last century, Frank Lloyd Wright, we intend to build a masterpiece by the greatest architect of this century."
