President Attracts Money, Attention to D-9 Race TAMPA (WUSF) - President Bush is attending a reception for U-S Congressional candidate Gus Bilirakis. The event at Raymond James Stadium is expected to attract about 300 guests who will pay $1,000 each to attend.

Bilirakis' Democratic opponent - former Hillsborough County Commissioner Phyllis Busansky - last week dismissed a poll that showed her trailing in the race.

BUSANSKY: I only know that the President of the United States of America is taking hours off in his day to campaign for Gus Bilirakis who loves this president, who loves being the legacy, who loves being the rubber stamp. And, I haven't seen the poll and I'm highly flattered and totally pleased. He couldn't be helping us anymore.

Busansky is working to tie Bilirarkis to his record as a Tallahassee lawmaker and to the insurance crisis the legislature failed to resolve.

Less than a mile from the president's fundraiser Busansky is holding an event where she offered to buy lunch - for any homeowner whose insurance has increased more than a $1,000 this year. © Copyright 2012, WUSF
