Another Democrat Runs for a Republican Seat
TAMPA
(WUSF) -
When Phyllis Busansky ran for Hillsborough County Commission in 1988, she was considered the underdog. Yet, she defeated her better financed opponent.
It's a role the Democrat is comfortable assuming again - running in the Republican-majority Congressional District 9.
BUSANSKY: I thought, I can't just sit on the sidelines and read the newspaper and get mad. I can't do that anymore. I've got to get up there and do something.
Busansky help create Hillsborough's Indigent Health Care Plan is particularly upset with Congress' Medicare prescription drug program.
BUSANSKY: I mean to pass a bill where you are prohibited from negotiating with pharmaceutical companies, prohibited, is outrageous, simply outrageous.
In the primary she'll match up with Democrats Bill Mitchell, Greg Rublee and Fred Taylor. Two Republicans - including the incumbent's son - also are running. © Copyright 2009, WUSF
