Power Outages Are Widespread
(2005-10-24)
(WUSF) - Line crews, tree trimmers and other support people from Tampa Electric plan to head south to help restore electricity for florida power and light customers. TECO spokesman Ross Bannister.

BANNISTER: We're going to send approximately 80 personnel down south to assist in the restoration efforts there. that would be comparable to what we sent over to Texas and Lousianna.

Progress Energy crews from the Carolinas also might be diverted south says spokeswoman Dana Yeganian.

YEGANIAN: Because, obviously the needs there are so great. There are a lot a more people without power and it sounds like that the damage is much worse there.

Late Monday afternoon, Florida Power and Light estimated 3-point-2 of its 4-point-3 million customers had lost electrical power. That's from Sarasota south to Naples, east to Miami and then north up the Treasure coast.
