Threat Initiates USF Lockdown
The all clear was given late Monday afternoon nearly three hours after police were first notified of the threat.
USF Police have identified Vincent Thomas-Perry McCoy, a USF student, as the person taken into custody after standing up on a campus bus and declaring "I'm the person you're looking for."
He is charged with a felony for making a false report about planting a bomb on state property.
USF Police Lt. Meg Ross said the Tampa Police Bomb Squad was brought into exam his backpack.
"The bomb squad is completed. They have rendered the backpack is no longer a threat," Ross said. She added that no explosives were found in the backpack and no weapons were discovered on McCoy.
A second man seen with a knife was detained for questioning but then released.
Police believe that incident is unrelated.
