IKEA Store Means Jobs
(2008-06-05)
Official groundbreaking for the Tampa store
(WUSF) - In about a year, bay area fans of IKEA will have direct access to the Swedish-based company's furnishings and home goods. The Tampa store, now under construction, will be more than a boon for shoppers.

It will mean 400 new jobs with a respected employer.

Drawing from our Swedish heritage, even if you work 20 hours a week at IKEA, you're still eligible for full benefits, says Joseph Roth, a company spokesman.

Tampa's store is being built on the southeast corner of Adamo Drive and 22nd Street. It will be the largest in the state with 353,000 square feet, the size of seven football fields.

Now that there's been an official groundbreaking, the next milestones will include construction, naming of a store manager and hiring workers for the opening next summer.
