Higher Ed Board Joins Lawsuit TAMPA (WUSF) - Faced with slimmer budgets and growing enrollment, the Board of Governors agreed to freeze freshman enrollment at current levels. But they left it up to trustees at each university to determine hiring freezes.

But, Chancellor Mark Rosenberg says the board took a historic step when it voted to join the lawsuit brought by former U.S. Senator Bob Graham and others that seeks to broaden the panel's power.

Our board finally decided to assert itself, says Rosenberg. Our board has been very careful about its commitment to collaboration and partnership. Our board has been very concerned about tuition.

The board also voted to increase tuition this spring up to 5 percent.

Board Chairwoman Carolyn Roberts plans to call Governor Crist to explain their position and ask him to come to the table to discuss a mutual agreement.
