Alice Parker's Anatomy of a Melody
(2007-03-08)
(wfcr) - For more than 50 years composer conductor, and teacher Alice Parker has devoted herself to celebrating the human voice. After graduating from Smith College she began a long partnership as arranger for choral conductor Robert Shaw. In 1985 she formed her own group called Melodious Accord, which focuses on melody, which Parker calls the heart of vocal music. Parker started composing when she was five, and 77 years later she's still at it in Hawley, Massachusetts. She told WFCR's Charlene Scott that she's concerned that modern music is burying melody.
