Bush 41 Visits Georgetown College Today
(2008-09-19)
(wuky) - A Georgetown College recreation building has been renamed for the nation's 41st president. Thousands gathered outside the newly-christened George H-W Bush Center for Fitness (earlier today/on Friday) for a dedication ceremony. The event was held to showcase an endowment from the P-G-A for the First Tee Scholarship Program, of which Bush is Honorary Chairman. Georgetown College President Doctor William H. Crouch, Junior welcomed the former commander-in-chief to the campus and thanked him for lending his name to the facility and for inspiring Georgetown students.

After unveiling the newly-renamed building, the former president addressed the crowd, saying the spirit of the First Tee program reminded him of another cause he championed while in the White House.

During the ceremony, the school was presented with a $15-thousand dollar check from the Professional Golfers Association of America. In 2003, Georgetown College became the first college in America to provide scholarships to young people who complete the First Tee program.
