Featuring Johannes Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem, arranged for a smaller chorus by Brahms specifically designed to enhance choral interpretation of the beautiful biblical texts contained in this powerful work. The texts of this work are not those of the Roman Mass, but rather a selection of biblical passages which Brahms carefully assembled, moved by the recent deaths of his mother and his great friend and mentor Robert Schumann. The complete work provides a deeply moving musical and spiritual experience, particularly for those who may be grieving the death of a loved one. The Choir will be joined by soprano Abigail Santos Villa-Lobos and baritone, Connor Angel – both past winners of the Kentucky Bach Choir vocal competition. Also on the concert program are Funeral Music for Queen Mary by Henry Purcell and Chorale, “Wer nur den lieben Gott”, by J. S. Bach.
