Artifacts Find Delays Country Music Development
(2008-09-11)
(APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - The discovery of arrowheads and broken pottery on the site of a proposed country music themed development south of Dothan is delaying the project.

The project's developer, Enterprise businessman Ronnie Gilley, is asking property owners to give him more time to purchase the 771-acre parcel between the Dothan city limits and the Florida line.

Gilley had hoped to close on the land last week. The vice president of operations for Ronnie Gilley Properties, Richard Kjellander, said the project is being delayed so that a second cultural resources evaluation can be conducted of the property.

Reeves said the relics are similar to what might be found on many farms in Alabama.

He said the cultural resources assessment was one of a number of studies and surveys required before the property can be developed.
