Jury Hears Closing Arguments In Schmitz Farud Trial
(APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - A prosecutor describes state Rep. Sue Schmitz as a conniving thief who used her Montgomery political connections to obtain a job by illicit means.

Federal prosecutor David Estes said in closing arguments Wednesday in Decatur that a job was created for Schmitz by Montgomery political figures and then she did ``almost no work.''

Her attorney, Buck Watson, said the 63-year-old Schmitz was committed to her job with a federally funded program to help troubled teens. Watson said prosecutors did not prove that Schmitz intended to commit fraud.

Jurors are expected to begin deliberating Schmitz' fate Wednesday afternoon.
