Alabamians Warned About Flood Waters
(APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - The Alabama Department of Public health urges Alabamians to use caution when coming across flood waters because it may contain fecal material from overflowing sewage systems.

In a press release Monday, the department warned that anticipated flooding from Tropical Storm Fay may result in contaminants being washed into streams, creeks, rivers and coastal waters. Although skin contact with flood waters doesn't pose a serious health risk, it's dangerous to eat or drink anything contaminated by flood water.

Those with open cuts or sores that will be exposed to flood water are advised to keep them as clean by washing well with soap to control infection.

Also, health experts said any fish or seafood caught from flood waters should be cooked thoroughly before eating.
