TVA Considering Raising Rates
(2008-08-20)
(APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - The Tennessee Valley Authority will be looking to raise electric bills by double digits this fall across the seven-state region.

TVA directors meeting in Knoxville Wednesday will be considering an increase in the quarterly fuel adjustment charge taking effect Oct. 1.

The hike is expected to be around 10 to 20 percent, or maybe more. While it could be trimmed three months later, TVA's done so only once before since it began charging the fees in 2007.

Directors also will consider a new annual budget. That could contain a hike in base rates as well. A year ago, the utility boosted its base rate by 7 percent.

More than 8 million consumers will be feeling the impact in Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Kentucky, Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia.
