Statements to Begin in Legislator's Fraud Trial
(APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - The process of selecting a jury is wrapping up in the fraud trial of state Rep. Sue Schmitz.

Schmitz is a Democrat from Toney and is charged with fraud. Prosecutors say she used her political influence to get a job with the two-year college system and then rarely showed up for work.

U.S. District Judge David Proctor told prospective jurors Monday that he expects the final panel of 12 jurors and two alternates to be picked Tuesday morning. Opening statements are expected to be given Tuesday.

Proctor told potential jurors he expects the trial to last two to four weeks.
