Distress Signal Near Mobile, No Plane Crash Found
(APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - A distress signal from a possible downed aircraft has been reported by pilots flying in an area between Pensacola, Fla., and Mobile, but a search has not turned up any sign of a crash

The Montgomery-based Alabama Wing, Civil Air Patrol, began a search after being contacted by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center on Wednesday afternoon. Air Patrol spokesman Capt. Jonathan W. Lartigue said a search continued Thursday with crews from Baldwin County and Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery.

Multiple pilots heard a ``Mayday'' radio call and received an emergency location transponder beacon signal.

Officials appealed for anyone with information about an overdue aircraft or an aircraft in distress to contact the Baldwin County sheriff's office.
