Carnival Will Send Cruise Ship to Mobile
(2008-07-25)
(APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - The Coast Guard says the Mississippi River has reopened to limited ship traffic following a massive oil spill. Part of the river around New Orleans has been closed since Wednesday after a barge collided with an oil tanker. Dozens of ships are backed up, and it's affecting both commerce and tourism. Mary Beth Romig is a spokesperson for the New Orleans Convention and Visitors Bureau. She told Alabama Public Radio's Butler Cain that a major cruise line has been forced to divert one of its ships to Alabama.
