Ala. Court Rules In State's Favor On Tax Refunds
(APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - The Alabama Department of Revenue has won a tax refund case at a state appeals court.

The Court of Civil Appeals ruled in favor of the state tax agency Friday and ruled against several credit companies seeking sales tax refunds.

Wells Fargo Financial Acceptance and five other companies had financed the purchases of everything from jewelry to autos to mobile homes in Alabama. The total amount they lent included the sales taxes on the purchases.

Some of the accounts became uncollectable and had to be written off. The credit companies sought refunds from the Revenue Department for the sales taxes paid on the purchases. The civil appeals court said the credit companies had no standing as taxpayers to seek refunds.
