Ala. Food Prices Climb In July, Says Farm Group
(APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - Just like the rest of the country, Alabamians are paying more for groceries.

The Alabama Farmers Federations said the cost of 20 basic market basket items rose 1.5 percent in July to a statewide average of $52.53.

The 79 cent increase from June was blamed on higher costs for fuel, transportation and energy.

The Federation said its survey conducted July 1-10 found higher prices for beef, pork, eggs and milk. Shoppers were able to find bargains for poultry, tomatoes and other produce, except lettuce.

The lowest average price for a market basket was found in northeast Alabama at $51.15. It was highest in south Alabama at $54.36.
