Ala. Water Systems To Be Put On Digital Maps
(APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - All of Alabama's water systems will be placed on digital maps.

The cost of the project was not disclosed, but Governor Bob Riley said in a statement Monday that funding would come from federal, state and local resources.

The state Office of Water Resources will use Global Positioning System satellites to map the state's municipal and rural water systems.

The data, according to Riley, will help in the planning of future economic developments and assist cities and counties share water resources during shortages.

The project will take about three years to complete. A pilot project was completed last fall in Bibb, Hale and Pickens counties.
