Authorities Will Watch Roads on July 4th
(APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - Got July 4th party plans? Drive carefully. State and local law enforcement officers will be keeping a watchful eye on drivers.

Alabama Public Safety Director, Colonel Chris Murphy, says all available troopers will be on the roads during the 78-hour holiday travel weekend.

DPS said special ''Task Force Zero'' DUI enforcement teams will target impaired and aggressive drivers who fail to obey traffic laws.

Last year there were 9 traffic fatalities in Alabama during a 30-hour 4th of July holiday period. More than half died in wrecks that involved alcohol.

The official holiday travel period begins at 6 p.m. Thursday and ends at midnight Sunday.
