Ala. Supreme Court Upholds Riley's Jefferson Co. Pick MONTGOMERY, AL (APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - The Alabama Supreme Court has upheld Gov. Bob Riley's appointment to a vacant Jefferson County Commission seat but says a November election for the seat must be held.

The court's decision Monday says Riley appointee George Bowman can continue serving in the seat that Larry Langford vacated when he successfully ran to be the mayor of Birmingham.

William Bell won a special election to the seat in February, but the court ruled that the election was invalid.
