Drought Getting Better, But Problems Linger
(2008-06-20)
(APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - Alabama is slowly emerging from the grips of a devastating drought, but experts warn it could get worse again. For the past 18 months, the state has been dealing with the effects of dry weather.

On Thursday, the National Drought Monitor Survey reported that 17 percent of Alabama is drought-free. But the rest of the state remains mired in some stage of drought, with 22 percent classified in the D-2 or severe category. That area is confined to the Northeastern portion of the state.

Experts say low rainfall amounts could make conditions worse in the Southern section of Alabama in the weeks to come.
