ADEM Sues Hanceville Over Sewage Discharge
(APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - State environmental officials have sued the Hanceville Water and Sewer Board over more than two million gallons of raw sewage discharged into Mud Creek.

The Alabama Department of Environmental Management filed its lawsuit on May 28 in Cullman County circuit court, citing unpermitted discharges from Hanceville's wastewater treatment plant.

ADEM said the plant discharged about 280 gallons of raw sewage into the creek on Jan. 21, and about two million gallons on Jan. 30-31.

ADEM's suit asks that the plant operations be turned over to a court-appointed receiver.

Water and Sewer Board Co-Manager Sally Alexander declined to comment on the suit. She said it will be discussed at a board meeting Tuesday.
