Ala. Governor, Black Caucus To Work On Grocery Tax
(APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - Gov. Bob Riley and Legislative Black Caucus have agreed to try to reach an agreement to remove the state sales tax on food in a future session of the Legislature.

Riley met privately with caucus members for lunch Thursday after they used stalling tactics to slow down the Legislature's special session. After the meeting, caucus members said they would stop their stalling and work to pass a state education budget by Saturday.

Democratic Rep. John Rogers of Birmingham said caucus members were satisfied with the agreement.

Riley said everyone wants to end the state's taxation of groceries, but the problem is how to pay for it.
