Alabama Senate Approves Education Budget
(APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - The Alabama Senate has passed a state education budget in special session after failing to approve a budget during the regular session.

The Senate voted 32-1 Thursday for the budget to fund schools and colleges for the upcoming fiscal year. The $6.4 billion budget now goes to the House.

Republican Sen. Scott Beason of Gardendale cast the lone vote against the budget. He says he's concerned that it appropriates more money than the state may collect.

Gov. Bob Riley called the Legislature into special session Tuesday because the Legislature's regular session ended May 19 with the Senate failing to approve an education budget.
