NWS Warns of Severe Weather Threat
(APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - Forecasters issued tornado warnings and watches for northwest Alabama today ahead of a cold front that could bring dangerous storms across the state.

Tornado warnings were issued for Colbert and Franklin counties after radar indicated the possibility of funnel clouds. The watch area includes 15 counties and the cities of Cullman, Decatur, Huntsville, Florence, Jasper and Tuscaloosa.

The National Weather Service says stormy weather could affect additional counties as the system moves eastward.

Strong southerly winds along the coast are expected to generate a high risk of rip currents along Alabama beaches. Forecasters said the main threats are hail and damaging winds, but isolated tornadoes are possible.

Meteorologists say another system will move in Sunday, likely causing more storms.
