House Education Budget Remains Tied Up In House Debate
(APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - A $6.3 billion budget to fund education in Alabama remains stalled in the House behind a corporate income tax bill that would raise as much as $82 million.

For the third day Tuesday, House members used delaying tactics to stall action on the budget and the corporate tax bill. Business groups have complained the corporate tax bill would unfairly burden Alabama businesses and make them pay taxes retroactively.

House members Tuesday discussed the education budget, while House leaders worked to find a compromise that will allow passage of the corporate tax bill.

Some House members complained that the proposed budget cuts too deeply into funding for Alabama colleges and universities.
