Ala. Tax Collections Slow Down From Prior Years
(APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - Alabama's tax collections grew through the first half of the fiscal year, but at a much slower pace than in past years.

The numbers were released Tuesday by the state Finance Department. State Finance Director Jim Main says the tax collections for the General Fund and education budgets increased about 3 percent over last year. He says that is what the governor expected when he recommended state budgets to the Legislature in February.

The Legislature held off working on the state budgets until getting the numbers from the first half of the fiscal year. Budget work will begin Wednesday when a House committee considers the General Fund budget.
