Alabama's Net Migration Shows State Growing
(APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - New census figures show Alabama is becoming a destination state, with a higher net migration than 35 other states.

The U.S. Census Bureau estimates Alabama had a net gain of 18,427 out-of-staters in a 12-month period in 2006-2007, The Birmingham News reported.

William Frey, a demographer at the Brookings Institute, a think tank in Washington, said net migration is more than triple the 5,009 net newcomers in 2002-2003.

A study from United Van Lines also shows 58 percent of the moving company's shipments in the state in 2007 were inbound rather than outbound. That's one of the highest rates of inbound shipments across the country. It's also the fifth year in a row that Alabama has been ranked a "high inbound" location.
