New Pipeline Coming To Tuscaloosa County
(APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - A Georgia-based pipeline company has announced plans to construct a 36-inch fuel line through south Tuscaloosa County as part of a $2 billion, 500 mile project across four Southeastern states.

An executive with Colonial Pipeline said construction will begin in 2011 and could be completed in about a year.

The firm is preparing to survey the proposed path so it can obtain the required state and federal permits.

Colonial Pipeline already has an existing fuel pipeline in Tuscaloosa County and in the other states through which the new project will be connected to.

The pipeline will extend from oil refineries in Jackson, Louisiana, to a distribution center in Austell, Georgia, when completed.

Records from the state environmental agency showed Colonial had one minor spill at its Moundville Pumping Station in 1997 that required action.
