Man Charged with Throwing Children from Bridge Indicted
(APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - The father charged with killing his four children by throwing them off the Dauphin Island Bridge has been indicted on five counts of capital murder by a Mobile County Grand Jury. Mobile County officials announced Lam Luong's indictment at a news conference Monday.

Mobile County District Attorney John Tyson Junior says he brought the case to the grand jury instead of conducting a preliminary hearing before a judge.

Tyson said there was little doubt criminal charges were warranted in this case so a preliminary hearing wasn't necessary. He said his office wants to bring the case to trial as soon as possible.

Though there were only four deaths, Alabama allows an additional capital murder count if the case involves the death of children or when more than one person is killed. That's why Luong faces five counts.

The Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences also released the official cause of death for the children today. Officials say most of the children suffered injuries to the head and/or neck in addition to asphyxia due to drowning. They said only the youngest, Hannah, died from drowning alone.
