Homewood to Host IRS Town Hall Meeting
(2008-02-21)
(APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - Homewood is hosting one of only three town hall meetings to be held nationwide this year by a federal advisory committee to the Internal Revenue Service.

The Taxpayer Advocacy Panel is a group of 100 citizens that field complaints to identify systemic problems with the IRS that need to be fixed. The panel was set by Congress to make the agency more taxpayer friendly.

Mark Paris, a TAP member, says when they take a taxpayer concern forward, he's found that the IRS is receptive to the criticism and comments.

There will be a one-hour forum between taxpayers and panel members, including National Taxpayer Advocate Nina Olson, who takes the taxpayer complaints to Congress.

Tonight's meeting at the Homewood Library starts at 6:30 p.m., and is open to the public.
