Ethics Bills Will Get First Priority In House Says Speaker
(2008-01-31)
(APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - House Speaker Seth Hammett says the first bills on the agenda in the Alabama House when the 2008 session begins Tuesday will be five measures to make state government more ethical.

Hammett said at a Statehouse news briefing today the first bill on the agenda will be a measure to ban the practice of transferring campaign contributions from one political action committee to another. Critics say the practice allows candidates to hide the source of their campaign contributions.

Hammett said the ethics bills will be introduced in the House on the first day of the session and will be considered in committees on Wednesday. The speaker said the bills will be debated in the House on Thursday. That's the first day the House or Senate can vote on legislation.
