Poll Finds Most in State Dislike Second-Hand Smoke
(APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - A majority of Alabamians believe they shouldn't be exposed to second hand smoke, according to the American Cancer Society.

The state chapter released its findings yesterday in Montgomery and said a statewide poll found 92 percent would support legislation banning smoking in the workplace. Now officials hope the poll, conducted in mid-December, would result in legislation to ban smoking in the workplace statewide.

A similar bill pushed by Mobile State Senator Vivian Figures died in the Alabama Legislature last year. But she promised yesterday to reintroduce the measure when lawmakers return to Montgomery for the 2008 session.

Several Alabama cities and towns already have smoke-free laws on the books.
