Second Church Fire in Two Weeks Destroys Building in Chilton County
(APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - State, local and federal authorities are probing the second church fire in Chilton County in as many weeks.

Fire officials say one building of Providence Baptist Church burned to the ground early Saturday.

In a statement, state Fire Marshal Ed Paulk described the fire as a burglary-arson. Paulk said items were stolen from the sanctuary.

A neighbor saw flames and reported the fire at 3:18 a.m.

The blaze was contained to kitchen and Sunday school classroom building and did not damage the main sanctuary or gymnasium.

Besides the fire marshal, the Chilton County Sheriff's Department and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms have also joined the investigation.

A fire destroyed Maple Springs Baptist Church on December 29th. It is still being investigated.
