Birmingham Mayor Wins Residency Suit
(APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - Birmingham's new mayor, Larry Langford, has won a lawsuit claiming he didn't live in the city and shouldn't be allowed to serve out his term.

Jefferson County Circuit Judge Allwin Horn ruled Monday that Langford established residency in Birmingham before last month's election and is qualified to serve as mayor.

The judge ruled against attorney Patrick Cooper, who finished a distant second to Langford and filed suit seeking a new election. Cooper claimed Langford still lives in Fairfield, a Birmingham suburb where Langford formerly served as mayor.

Langford testified during a hearing earlier this month that he still spends time at his longtime home in Fairfield. But he said he also is renting a loft in Birmingham and plans to move to the city permanently.
