Deadline Looms for Soldiers' Christmas Gifts
(APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - It may seem early to be sending Christmas presents, but for people with family members serving in the military overseas, the deadline is fast approaching.

The U.S. Postal Service says December 4th is the cut off date to ensure soldiers in Iraq will get their gifts by Christmas.

Mail to Iraq will increase by 400 percent over the average weekly volume during the second week of December, according to the Postal Service. About 20 million pounds of mail will be delivered to military installations around the world this holiday season.

Family members say postage cost is often overlooked and can be quite expensive, as much as $9 per box.
