Recent Rain Curtailed Drought in South Alabama
(APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - Those recent rains in south Alabama curtailed the drought some according to the U.S. Drought Monitor survey. The southern sections of Mobile and Baldwin counties have been lifted from any drought conditions.

In contrast, almost two-thirds of the state remain under the worst drought conditions. About 64 percent of Alabama remain under D-4 designation - that's about 10 percent less than last week.

It's a similar story across sections of the Southeast. 32 percent of Georgia, mainly the northern third of the state, is under the D-4 conditions. About 56 percent of Tennessee and North Carolina, 5 percent of Virginia, 27 percent of South Carolina and 14 percent of Kentucky also are under the worst drought conditions.

According to the Monitor, drought conditions in most of the region are expected to persist, at least through January.
