Unemployment Rate Declined Last Month
Shelby County had Alabama's lowest jobless rate at 2.4 percent, followed by Madison County at 2.7 percent and Baldwin County at 2.8 percent. The highest rate was in Bullock and Wilcox counties at 8.9 percent, followed by Dallas County at 8.1 percent.

Alabama's unemployment rate declined slightly in September to 3.7 percent. State Industrial Relations Director Tom Surtees says the rate had been 3.8 percent in August and 3.6 percent in September 2006. Alabama's September rate was better than the comparable national rate of 4.7 percent.Shelby County had Alabama's lowest jobless rate at 2.4 percent, followed by Madison County at 2.7 percent and Baldwin County at 2.8 percent.
