Edwards, Giuliani Lead Party Fundraising in Alabama
(APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - Former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards leads Democratic presidential candidates in fundraising in Alabama, while former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani is tops on the Republican side.

Quarterly fundraising reports show Edwards had collected $438,521 in Alabama through September 30th. Giuliani listed $270,650 in Alabama donations, the Press-Register reported.

Former Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson, a late entry into the Republican presidential race, has raised $203,154 in Alabama.

Illinois Sen. Barack Obama held fundraisers in Huntsville and Birmingham in July and reported more than $151,000 in contributions from Alabamians in the third quarter. That pushed his total for the state to $199,900.

Presidential candidates don't have to report small contributions on their campaign contribution reports. Obama's campaign issued a statement saying his total third-quarter total in Alabama, including small contributions, was $200,492 and his overall total in the state rose to $323,337.
