Prattville Mayor Won't Campaign for Congress
(APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - Prattville Mayor Jim Byard said Wednesday he will not seek the 2nd District seat in Congress being vacated by retiring Republican Congressman Terry Everett.

Byard had been one of several people who said they would consider running for the GOP nomination for the 2nd District seat. But Byard said he plans to run for re-election as Prattville's mayor.

Those who have indicated an interest in the 2nd District seat include state Representatives Greg Wren, David Grimes and Jay Love, all are Republicans from Montgomery.

Other names include Democratic state Representative Terry Spicer of Elba, Montgomery Mayor Bobby Bright, Agriculture Commissioner Ron Sparks and John Giles, the former president of the Christian Coalition of Alabama.
