AG King Asks for New Execution Date MONTGOMERY, AL (APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - The Alabama attorney general's office has asked the Alabama Supreme Court to set a new execution date for Tommy Arthur - a day after he was granted a 45-day stay of execution by Governor Bob Riley.

The new date will be set at the court's discretion.

Arthur was scheduled for lethal injection Thursday for a 1982 contract murder in Muscle Shoals when the governor issued his order for a stay.

Riley said a change made this week in the state's lethal injection procedures called for a delay in Arthur's execution.
