Monitor Shows State's Drought Has Worsened
(2007-08-10)
(APR - Alabama Public Radio ) - The latest Drought Monitor Survey shows almost 52 percent of Alabama is now in the worst stages of drought.

The exceptional drought category now covers almost all of north Alabama except for a small area of the state along the Mississippi border. The exceptional area runs as far south as Lowndes and Dallas counties.

A second D-4 area covers southwest Georgia and runs across the Alabama line just north of the Florida Panhandle. More than 77 percent of the state is covered by the worst and second worst drought conditions. Experts have called this the worst drought in a century, and predict it could last through the winter.
